This is the daily ordo of the Parish of St. John Henry Newman, at the Church of St. Aloysius in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, kept under the rubrics of St. Pius X’s Divino Afflatu reform of 1911, as they stood until the simplifications of 1955. One liturgical state is applied to every day shown here, worked out for the present calendar, with the feasts and observances proper to this parish and to the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
What it is
The Office and Mass of each day are computed from the rubrics themselves: which feast is kept when two or three fall together, what is transferred, commemorated or omitted, the octaves, the concurrence of Vespers, and the Mass details — colour, Preface, Gloria, Credo, the Last Gospel — that follow from them. Feasts proper to this parish (its Titular, the Dedication of its church, the parish’s Patron) and to the Archdiocese of Melbourne are included, as are the indulgences currently in the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum and the Victorian public holidays, where they fall.
Scope: pre-1955 exclusively
The rubrics followed are those of the 1911 reform as in force through 1954 — not the 1955 Pius XII simplification, not the 1960 code, not the 1962 Missal. The sanctoral is the final pre-1955 calendar, including mid-twentieth-century additions such as St. Pius X and St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Where a later dispensation would affect a day shown here — a holyday transferred, a feast later renamed — the pre-1955 books are never altered to match it.
Sources
Every rule is checked against primary sources before anything is changed: the Missal’s own Additiones et Variationes in Rubricis Missalis, the Breviary’s general rubrics, Divinum Officium’s pre-1955 data and code, printed ordos of the period (the Australasian Catholic Directory, 1936–1954, among them), and a hand-corrected multi-year reference spreadsheet checked day by day against the gold standard this engine is built against.
